Yesterday I’ve discovered a young Russian director Roman Karimov. He’s only made two films so far and I’ve watched and fell in love with both of them last night (Inadequate People and To Pieces). But the one that’s still on my mind is Vdrebezgi (To Pieces), a dark comedy with a style similar to Tarantino and Coen brothers. It was grimy, brutal, absurd, stylish, and with a great cast. It’s pretty rare to find quality among current Russian films, so this was refreshing and bold.
